Connecting a recognizable graphic expression with a surprising and fun experience was the basis of RenMidtfyn. An motion-activated central trashcan was the centerpiece of this installation. When used, the trashcan would give something quite specific to the user. Something that a festival guest never gets themselves. A simple applause.
Giving back applauses to the guests proved to be a special gift. Observing the installation gave priceless reactions. A woman grabbing her husbands arm tight before laughing. A child going on a trash hunt, to use it once more before leaving. Two drunken men debating why this wasn't installed in the bathrooms.
Along side the interactive trashcan, every "outside" trashcan was marked by flags. Large posters where used inside the concert tents. Stickers where free to take in every bar, "I keep the festival clean because_______".
"It should be every where, so people can understand that they need to use the F****** trashcan!"
Anna was sitting with her friends looking over the festival. The where in their early twenties reminiscing about their time in school.
"The installation contributed to an increased focus on cleanliness and resulted, among other things, in children, young people and adults alike wanting to find rubbish to activate the bin.
Thank you for your work, effort and involvement."
